WHO WE ARE

MW/DDA’s roots trace back to 1970 with Miller & Weaver, Inc., one of the first consulting mechanical engineering firms in Birmingham. MW/DDA was established as its successor in 2002, carrying forward a reputation for excellence that has seen the firm consistently featured on the Birmingham Business Journal’s “Top Engineering Companies” list.

Specializing in the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems for commercial buildings, MW/DDA serves a diverse portfolio of clients, including:

J. Sam Davis, Jr., PE
Principal Emeritus

James Sam Davis, Jr., joined Miller & Weaver, Inc. in 1981 as a mechanical design engineer. In 2001 he became President and the company name changed to MW/Davis Dumas & Associates, Inc. In 2005 he was named by Governor Bob Riley to the Alabama Board of Heating and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors, a position he held until July 2015. In 2012 he was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley to the Alabama Energy and Residential Board until 2021. He is also a member of American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers,
United States Green Building Council, and the National Fire Protection Association.

Joe Davis, PE, LEED AP
President / CEO

Joe Davis joined the firm in 1999 and was named President/CEO in 2025. His design resume includes projects ranging from small tenant fit-ups to large data centers and high-rise office buildings. His relationship with his clients is part of what helps drive MW/Davis Dumas & Associates, Inc. and the success of this relationship is shown through the high number of repeat clients. Mr. Davis is a young leader and trend setter in the engineering community. He has been awarded honors by his peers and professional societies that show his dedication to his work and willingness to innovate creative solutions to solve problems, including being named the 2008 ASHRAE Young Engineer of the Year

James S. Davis, III, LEED AP BD+C
Chief Financial Officer

Jami Davis joined MW/DDA in 2002 as marketing coordinator. Since 2007 he has overseen the accounting, human resources and marketing efforts of the firm and in 2015 was named Chief Financial Officer. His responsibilities include overseeing the financial aspects of the company, human resources, as well as day-to-day operations. Mr. Davis became a LEED AP in 2003 and is now certified LEED AP BD+C.
